Is Your Snoring Driving You Crazy? These Tips Can Help!

Restless nights plague many people. When you or your loved one snores, it can make sleep even more difficult. Snoring is not just disturbing for others; it also can also be dangerous. Snoring is a nuisance to a good night’s sleep; however, there are many helpful hints that can help minimize the impact of snoring in your life.

If you have a snoring problem, avoid sleeping on your back. This position makes snoring more likely because of the way the soft palate and base of the tongue rest at the back of your mouth. Instead, sleep on your side. You are less likely to snore in this position and your quality of sleep will likely improve.

If you want to stop snoring, try sleeping on your side. When you sleep on your stomach it can put pressure on your neck region. This can cause snoring. in addition, sleeping on your back restricts air flow to your body, also causing snoring. This is why sleeping on your left or right side is considered to be the best position if snoring is a problem.

One trick that many spouses have learned when they have to sleep with a snorer is to nudge them until they turn over on their side. The change in position will often alleviate the problem, at least temporarily. While it is no fun to have to constantly nudge your spouse, sometimes that is the only way you can get to sleep.

Blow your nose well before you go to bed. Often snoring is caused by a buildup of mucous in your nose. A stopped-up nose typically causes you to open your mouth during your sleep in order to breathe. When you breathe through your mouth you snore so keep some tissue at the side of your bed to prevent the problem before it starts.

If you smoke, quitting can diminish your snoring. If you can’t quit altogether, at least kick the habit for the few hours immediately before bed. When you smoke, your throat swells, which will cause your air passages to get narrower. When narrowed passages exist, so does snoring. Consider quitting as an alternative to an inflamed throat at night.

To help alleviate snoring, try to use over-the-counter snoring aids that help to open your airway. Snoring is often caused by the airway being constricted. By simply changing how you breathe, snoring can be relieved. There are many products available that can help open your airway, without needing to take any pills.

Avoid drinking alcohol if you snore. In addition to refraining from alcohol use, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, and antihistamines should also be avoided before bedtime. The reason this happens is because these tend to relax your muscles, limiting your air passage in your throat, and therefore increasing snoring.

Snoring does not need to control your sleep. Although, it can be embarrassing; it is a natural and somewhat unpleasant part of life. If you or your loved ones snoring is too much to handle, then please seek medical help. Snoring can lead to other health problems. Remember, a good night’s sleep can happen.
